HELLO SAILOR!

Today the famous Volvo Ocean race arrives on the shores of Galway and  the whole city is buzzing while preparing for a week full of fun and events.

To get in the right celebratory mood I’d like to show my readers a photo shoot with a nautical theme  that I was asked to produce during my fashion course this year.

My inspiration was the french riviera during the sixties and the location is the Claddagh in Galway.

The photographer is Feargal Norton.

Straw bags mania

Hello everyone!

What do you think about strawbags? I absolutely love them, they are perfect for a day on the beach but just as good  for an afternoon in town.

There is nothing better then grabbing one of these little beauties to make you feel like you are chilling  on a Greek Island even on your way to work!

The smell of summer…

“It is the month of June,
The month of leaves and roses
When pleasant sights salute the eyes,
And pleasant scents the noses.”
–   N.P. Willis

These are my favorite perfumes for the summer, what I like about each of them  is that they leave a light scent on your skin that makes you feel fresh even on a really hot day!

Which perfume do you like to wear during the summer!?

Masquerade ball outfit

Today I got the results for my Business Fashion course and I have to say I’m really delighted with them!

So I decided to post the pictures of the outfit that I had to style for one of my styling assignments, the theme that the teacher gave us  was “Masquerade ball”.

I decided to use a Krizia vintage long top that I found in my aunt closet and to style it with a black tulle skirt that I made myself ( well with a little help from my mom…) and a pair of knee-high boots, I also added golden bangles and a necklace worn as a tiara just to give a “royal” touch to the whole outfit.

The location was the beautiful Kylemore Abbey in co. Galway, Ireland and the photographer was Feargal Norton.

I hope you like it!

Black&Gold outfit

As you already know if you read my post about my favorite trends of the summer, lately I really like scarf prints so when I came across this really nice dress a  few weeks ago in TK-Maxx, I couldn’t resist  the sparkle of its golden prints and I just had to get it.

I’m also a big fan of the classic black and gold combo which I find very sophisticated, so I decided to style the whole outfit in these two colours.

Diana Vreeland “The eye has to travel”

In this post I’d like write about the woman that made Vogue America the great fashion magazine that it is  today and, no, I’m not talking about Anna Wintur!

As much as she is one of the biggest names, if not the biggest, in the fashion industry I think that Vogue wouldn’t be the same without the amazing work  that Diana Vreeland did as editor of the magazine in the sixties.

She was one of those rare person that doesn’t follow trends but creates them, and we also have to thank her for having discovered some of those unknowns who then became huge fashion icons.

One of the things that I appreciate most about Diana Vreeland is how, probably due to the fact that as she recalls in an interview,  she was considered by her own mother as “a ugly little monster”,  she developed from a young age a striking sense of personal style.

Consequentially  she always favored totally unconventional beauties during her career as a director of Harper’s Bazaar first and then Vogue .  Something that is not so common nowadays.

Before  showing you some of her unique work I’d like to share with you a picture of Diana Vreeland in front of a Chanel boutique alongside one of her famous quotes:

” You gotta have style. It helps you get down the stairs. It helps you get up in the morning. It’s a way of life. Without it, you’re nobody.”

My top 5 favorite trends of the summer

These are some of  the trends I’m in love with this summer! Do you agree with me?

Baci Giulia

1. SCARF PRINT:

I particularly like this trend because it reminds me of when, as a child, I used to play with my mom’s beautiful scarves making for myself what I thought to be amazing designer clothes!

2. FRUIT SHAPED JEWELRY:

What’s not to love about it? Wear one ( or all)  of them and you’ll feel instantly happy even on a rainy summer day in Galway.

3. FLORAL PRINT:

Either you go for a classic ’60s style or a more modern “flower mixed with vegs”  a la Dolce&Gabbana S/S collection , this is definately the ultimate summer print.

4. PASTEL PANTS:
What I like about pastel pants is that they can give a summer vibe to every outfit without forcing us to show our  not so tanned (yet) legs.
5. HIGH – LOW SKIRT:
I have to admit I have a big crush on  high- low hem skirt. I love the idea of a total new approach to an item that has been part of  women’s wardrobes forever, and it also means for a very indecisive girl like me that I have one less decision to make!

Saturday afternoon outfit

Today was one of the rare sunny days in Galway so I have decided to make the most of it posing for some pictures  for my first outfit post.

The leather leggings that I am wearing are definitely one of my favourite items in my wardrobe at the moment, even though it’s been over two years since I bought them in a nice little shop in Camden Town, London.  I particularly like the detail of the long zip at the sides and I think that they can give a fashionable touch to either a day or a night outfit.

My inspiration…

Hi everyone, it took me  a little while to figure out what I wanted my first post to be.

Both because I am a VERY indecisive person and because the  internet connection in my house  decided to stop the day after I took the big step of starting my own little blog ( I hope it’s not a sign!).

Finally though, after many days spent thinking and annoying my friends about what I should have posted first, I have decided that maybe the best thing to do was to start by showing  you a mood board that I did  few months ago as part of an assignment of my fashion course.

I think that this could be a good way to introduce myself as well as my style and my inspirations… hopefully you will agree with me!
